Trees are reflected in the puddles on the ground, dancing seemingly weightlessly in front of the clouds. Sonja Feldmeier's video work Slow Fox is based on massive tree felling in Kleinlützel, which took place in the immediate vicinity of her second studio in the Jura. In order to ensure the stability of the rock, a total of 2500 trees were felled along the entire length of the village, a large proportion of which were removed by helicopter - an incisive and upsetting experience for nature and people alike.
The flying trees, some of which fall into the forest, are accompanied by a haunting audio track. At the center of this atmospheric sound collage are the rotor noises of helicopters - defamiliarized into a pulsating, eerie rhythm. A whistled melody overlays the rhythm like an inner compass - as if someone is trying to reassure themselves in the midst of the threatening scenery. The trees falling into the forest are dubbed with vocally imitated sounds.
